Fonterra’s new milk powder dryer “D2” situated in Darfield, Canterbury sits alongside its sister “D1” dryer which was commissioned in 2012. When the spring peak flow of milk comes through the plant, a total of about 6.5-7 million litres will be processed a day. This will make the D2 dryer the largest milk powder dryer in the world. This dryer has a design capacity of processing 4.5 million litres of milk a day for 30.8 tonnes of powder an hour. AVS equipment is used at the heart of this project as D2 uses coal to generate steam to power the drying process, with much of the steam then being recycled to the boiler.
AVS is proud to be actively involved in the community by directly supporting youth cricket in Auckland. We also invest in native forest conservation through our close partnership with the QE2 Trust by re-establishing native forest and fauna on a large conservation estate north of Auckland.
